2014 Groovefest Music & Art Festival, Press Release, Schedule, List of Partners

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
12TH ANNUAL GROOVEFEST MUSIC & ART FESTIVAL
HISTORIC DOWNTOWN, CEDAR CITY, UTAH
JUNE 23- JUNE 29, 2014

May 1, 2014

Cedar City, Utah’s Groovefest Music & Art Festival is celebrating its 12th annual event in the community’s beautiful historic downtown district beginning on Monday, June 23rd and running through Sunday, June 29th for 2014.

Now recognized on the nation-wide festival circuit, the celebration became a week-long festival in 2013 that includes national as well as local musicians, artists and writers,  a children’s event, Groove Kids, the LitFest literary event, the annual Campfire Concert in the Canyon, Kick-off Show, music workshops, after-hours shows, the very popular Sunday Gospel Brunch, as well as the always highly anticipated music performances in the downtown’s Main Street Park alongside the Cedar City Arts Festival, now organized by Iron Mission Foundation. In addition to the art, the Foundation also handles the planning of the food vendors at Groovefest.

Groovefest began in 2002 as a small parking lot concert and has blossomed into its current week-long extravaganza. With much hard work and devotion from the Groovefest planning committee (better known as The Groove Crew) the festival has garnered much national attention due to the wealth of great talent that has appeared over the years. In addition, the event brings well over one million and a half dollars of revenue to the local Cedar City economy!
Tim Cretsinger, Groovefest founder and director sites the abundance of amazing talent that exists in the United States: "Our goal is to nurture and expand on the great musicianship we’ve discovered that there is out there. What I want to do is to introduce our citizens to the wonderful musicians that they may not have seen, but likewise to show our area to a group of performers that may have never been to this beautiful place before. We live in vacationland and I want to share that."

And it has paid off. "Not only do the musicians get a great reception here, but they love the area plain and simple!" says Cretsinger. "There have been bands we’ve signed on that have never been east of the Mississippi and they’re blown away!"

"I don’t even have to solicit entertainment any longer," he says. "They come to me with the desire to play here and that means success tome! Cedar City is now and forever on the map afar as a destination for musical performance!"

This year promises to be one of the best Groovefest yet, promises Cretsinger, who has had some challenges in planning for 2014. In December he was diagnosed with throat cancer and has spent the first few months of the year undergoing treatments at the Huntsman Cancer Center.

"The crew really stepped up this year and decided to take up the slack that I was leaving, so it may be the best one yet!" he notes.

Various fundraisers were implemented by the crew throughout the year to offset the costs that are required of a festival the magnitude of Groovefest. But the celebration would not be possible without continued support from the many local businesses and individuals who advertise and contribute to insure that Groovefest is successful year after year.

The Groovefest American Music Festival is truly a grassroots effort and the current list of dedicated partners proves it. To see the list of those who make Groovefest possible, plus everything that festival-goers need to know about the festival, go to www.groovefestutah.com.

Groovacious/Groovefest weekly blast coming at ya!

Dear Friends:
Perhaps you’ve noticed that I have not kept up on my usual Music & Art Happenings email blast/blog as of late.
For those of you who do not know, I was diagnosed with HPV throat cancer in December. Since then, I have been going through the necessary treatments to rid myself of this horrible disease. Well, as of Monday March 30, I am finished with the current regiment of treatments and the doctors tell me I am doing well.
Of course, they keep reminding me – even though they don’t need to – that just because I’m finished with the plan, does not mean I am, all of a sudden, better. They tell me that within a handful of months I should be starting to feel somewhat normal. We’ll see about that and ho it allows me to do much at Groovefest this year; but what I really wanted to tell you now is that I intend on trying to get back to compiling my weekly list of things to do, in hopes that you find it useful.
For right now, I wanted to remind you of our very wonderful Groovefest Music & Art Festival (notice name change) is coming upon us quickly and as we always promise to share our very generous Partners with you every week. These are those who keep Groovefest going and without them, we could not do it. I hope to be adding to this list, and very quickly too, as the deadline for getting folks to jump on board in order to get on this year’s beautiful poster is coming up the week of the 14th.
I also wanted to make sure you were aware of the major event coming up at Groovacious on Tuesday, April 22 at 7:00PM. The amazing ANTI- recording artist, naturalist, singer, songwriter SEAN ROWE will be stopping by the store to perform a rare in-store concert!! We are very excited about this as this is the first time Sean has been out this way from the east coast and he has bee one of our personal favorites for the past few years. You can take a look at what he’s all about here:
And other places of course. We hope you’ll join us – to see Sean Rowe in the intimate atmosphere of the Groovacious stage will be such a treat! Admission is just $10.
Then, April 26 debuts “Groovefest: The Movie 2”, put together by none other than our Lisa! It will give you a good loo at what transpired at last year’s festival.
So, here it is for this week – take a look at all these lovely people and consider adding your business to this impressive list. Look for the usual Music & Art Happenings coming up from me in the next few weeks – and remember to take advantage of all the great music and art we have going on in the beautiful place we live called Cedar City.
