GROOVACIOUS/GROOVEFEST AMERICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL

Hey! Thanks to all of you who came out to the last minute TREVOR GREEN show at Braun Books on Sunday night! No one was disappointed as it was an incredible performance by Trevor for sure! He was on his way to Sundance to play and talk about the music he contributed to the soundtrack of the new Sean Penn film called “This Is the Place”. The film also stars Frances McDormand and Harry Dean Stanton. We told Trevor to put in a good word for Cedar City!

* We have a very special show coming up at Mike’s Tavern on Saturday night!! EUFORQUESTRA will be performing for the first time since they headlined Groovefest in 2007!! If you remember, this 7-piece Afrobeat band’s van broke down in Moab and half of the band had to hitch a ride with a trucker and the other half rented a U-Haul to bring their equipment to the festival. Then, they stayed the following week and put on a free show at Groovacious to thank everyone for helping them as they tried to find a new van while here.

I feel so fortunate to acquire them to perform in the intimate setting that Mike’s is. Please, make sure you don’t miss this show! The details are all below.

The Groovacious Dozen Best Sellers: January 16-21 2012
1- Korn “The Path of Totality”
2- Attack Attack! “This Means War”
3- Bad Meets Evil “Hell: The Sequel”

About Euroquestra:
Originally from Iowa City, IA, Eufórquestra (pronounced: yoo • FOHR • keh • struh, think Euphoria+Orchestra) relocated to Fort Collins, CO in August 2008 and has made a splash on the Colorado music scene with a relentless tour schedule and a live show that leaves feet tired and hearts and minds happy. The band is known for their diverse sound and eclectic repertoire, covering a number of traditional and progressive sounds ranging from (but not limited to) reggae, dub, afrobeat and samba to ska, high-life, funk and jazz.

In October 2009 the band released Soup, a collection of 11 tracks that captures the band at new heights in terms of songwriting, energy and production.

The band is influenced by many modern, traditional and cultural musics from around the globe as well as modern and classic stylings from the USA. Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Antibalas, Easy Star All Stars, The Meters, James Brown, Burning Spear, Daktaris, King Tubby, Ticklah, Paul Simon, Peter Tosh, Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars, Tony Allen, Talking Heads, Sly and the Family Stone, Bela and the Flecktones, and too many more to list here.

What makes Euforquestra special is that they always bring something new and unique to the stage as new projects drive the band into further musical studies.

I hope everyone had a safe, happy and wonderful New Year's celebration!

Now that 2012 is here I wanted you to know that I've renewed my dedication to continue to build the strength of my community by supporting local businesses, and at the very least, companies that DO business in my community.

I have always felt, and I still feel, that the only way we can make our town a better one is to support those who have taken the time and dedication to set us apart from all the generic entities that make other places all look exactly alike.

I also have believed - and still do - that a community cannot survive if it's residents are always looking elsewhere for the goods that they could easily buy in their city. And the tax dollars are utilized here - not somewhere else to help build other towns.

I'm hoping you will join with me to intentionally build our own community and not those of Amazon and other non-brick-and-mortar gigantor corporations. In doing this very simple thing, we not only make our city more attractive to us, but to those who are visiting us. Who knows, they might just may want to come and see us again!

I value all of your friendships and no matter what else we agree or disagree on, I hope we can all agree on this one simple concept. It is so very important.

**The 2012 Groovefest American Music Festival 3” Art Show at The Grind Coffee House was a great success! Thanks to all those who contributed artwork as well as those who bought it! A special thank you goes out to Jonna and Shay Baruffi of The Grind who organized the show! Apparently we they will be hosting another one in late spring, so get your three inch squares ready!

Friday, January 6, 8:00PM: THE SALE featuring BREANNA PALETTA & Justin Bennett at Groovacious at 173 N. 100 W. in Cedar City. Admission is a $5.00 donation.
The Sale is the brainchild of Portland, Oregon based singer/songwriters Breanna Paletta and Justin Bennett. With poignant, piercing honesty and bittersweet reflection, the pair's songs speak to the joy and pains of everyday life that can’t be captured in everyday expression. Abundant and pressing at the seams with vivid metaphor and insightful wisdom, they let you see who they are and give you a glimpse inside yourself.
Rounding out these two are drummer Chris Lay and bassist Michael Dougherty, whose dual intuition and chemistry bring drive, nuance and that extra kick in the pants. Long-time cohort, multi-instrumentalist Todd Bayles also accompanies on occasion as well as a rotating cast of players on an array of different instruments.
With musical roots in the staples of the 70s, 80s and 90s, The Sale draws influence from innovative heroes like Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Sade, and Bob Marley. Their respective formative years were a flurry of melodies and old vinyl, having been blessed with musical or music loving parents.
These passionate artists bring energy and intensity to every performance to captivate listeners and evoke powerful emotion. Quickly becoming a mainstay in Portland’s diverse music scene, The Sale is on a mission to heal the soul through music and community.
Breanna and Justin played at the 2008 Groovefest American Music Festival and Groovacious is happy to welcome them back to Cedar City for a concert in the store on January the 6th.
