FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Southwest Wildlife Foundation’s 2014 CAMPFIRE CONCERTS IN THE CANYON #3
Friday, August 29, 2014 8PM
WILHELM & JASON TYLER BURTON
At Cedar Canyon Nature Park
Friday, August 29th is set for the third of the very popular CAMPFIRE CONCERT IN THE CANYON series for the 2014 season at the Cedar Canyon Nature Park. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m.
The Campfire Concert series is now its sixth year and helps to bring attention to the Southwest Wildlife Foundation and creates awareness about the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP). The concert series features local and touring musicians and is just one of the many events held at the fire pit program area at the Nature Park.
When plans are fully in place, the CCNP will house native wild animals that cannot be released due to injurious disabilities and will include a Visitors and Nature Center to be built on the grounds of the park, located 1.5 miles east of Cedar City’s Main Street on Highway 14.
The CCNP program area is located at the south side of Coal Creek, directly south across the park’s green bridge. Parking is available at the bridge entrance site in addition to the city bridge at the west waterfall, where that footbridge will take you to the city walking path. From there, just follow the trail until you come to the fire pit, just a short distance to the east.
The concerts are casual and participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, lanterns and/or flashlights. Marshmallows and roasting sticks are a courtesy provided by the Southwest Wildlife Foundation. The show is free, but donations will be accepted.
This month’s featured artists are WILHELM and JASON TYLER BURTON, both of which performed at this year’s Groovefest Music & Art Festival.
Wilhelm is a self-described gypsy band with “a little bit jazz” whose key musical influences are cited as including Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Consisting of Heather (fiddle), Ryan (guitar), Jedd (guitar), Mason (bass) and Olivia (vocals), the band also incorporates at bit of bossa nova, western swing, and even a little rock and pop. Besides Groovefest , an early incarnation of Wilhelm also played at the Campfire Concert series last September.
Jason Tyler Burton is a wanderer, a soul searching adventurer who writes songs about the journey. Originally from Kentucky, he is now a nomad in the American West. His songs and stories are heartfelt, with a voice and lyrics that invite you to lean in a little, and really listen. His sophomore release “Headwaters” was released in July and is already getting great reviews and airplay from Maine to California, including syndicated NPR shows such as Out of the Woods and Fresh Folk.
For more information about the Cedar Canyon Nature Park and its facilities, the Campfire Concerts in the Canyon, and what's in store for the future, call 435-586-4693 or 435-867-9800, email info@gowildlife.org or go to www.gowildlife.org. You can also visit the SWF and CCNP Facebook pages for updates and photos.
