It’s Halloween week and there are numerous events and parties happening every day. Please be cautious and keep an extra eye out as you’re driving. Parents, please don’t leave your very young children unattended. Have fun!!

9th Annual Red Rock Film Festival is a gathering for cinematic art in Cedar City. It is a retreat for independent premieres, films, and panels that both enlighten the senses and empower the mind. All genres are considered and a wide diversity are selected. Monday, November 2, 5:00pm: "El día de los muertos" (The Day of the Dead) Celebrtion. Join the SUU Department of Languages and Philosophy in the General Classroom Building 110 on the SUU Campus at 351 W University Blvd. in Cedar City. Learn about this important cultural celebration, paint sugar skulls, cut "papel picado" and other fun activities. Also, stop by and visit the Altar to honor the dead from October 29 to November 3rd at the General Classroom Building Foyer. These events are free and open to the public.

Monday, November 2, 6:00pm: Author presentation: The Art and Life of Jimmie Jones in the Great Hall of the Hunter Conference Center on the SUU Campus at 351 W University Blvd, Cedar City. Dr James A Aton gives a presentation on his new book. Open to the public, hors d’oeuvres will also be served. Admission is free.

Monday, November 2, 7:30pm: SUU Department of Theatre Arts & Dance Musical: Next to Normal in the Auditorium Theatre on the SUU Campus at 351 W University Blvd. in Cedar City. This provocative contemporary musical centers on a family coping with crisis and mental illness. (Content warning: adult situations and language). Monday, November 2, 7:30pm: SUU String & Piano Ensembles in the Thorley Recital Hall, SUU Music Building on the SUU Campus at 351 W University Blvd. in Cedar City. Admission is free.

Thursday, November 5, 7:00pm: Screening of "Prophet's Prey" at  the Heritage Center Theatre at 105 N 100 E in Cedar City., When Warren Jeffs rose to lead the Fundamentalist Church of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) he brought his dictatorial and sadistic desires to bear on a society that was all too vulnerable to exploitation. The FLDS was already a paternalistic religion with a history of polygamous and underage marriage, yet Warren managed to expand these practices in unprecedented ways, bridging the gap between sister wives and ecclesiastically justified rape. Directed by Amy Berg. Followed by a Q&A with author, producer, and private investigator Sam Brower. Admission is $10  at the door. Saturday, November 7, 6:00pm: Cedar City 164th Birthday Celebration at Cedar High School at 703 W 600 S in Cedar City. The program will feature the 5th grade students from our local elementary schools performing numerous musical numbers and recognizing the winners of the "What Makes Me Smile About Cedar City" writing and art contest. Admission is free to everyone.

Saturday, November 7, 7:30pm: PENNY NICHOLS  CD Release Concert at Off The Cuff Improv at 913 S Main St. in Cedar City. An enlightening evening of songs and stories from the career of Penny Nichols in celebration of  the release of her new CD, "Golden State". Advance tickets are $12 at Groovacious in Cedar City.
